And with Edmunds on second guitar and on duet vocal it reminds the good old days of "The Race Is On". Johnny Kidd's Please Don't Touch rocks like hell. Santo and Johnny's "Sleepwalk" appears here for the first time, long before the orchestra and the Grammy Award.
Though I grew rapidly tired of the heavy orchestra Mireille Mathieu - Olympia, this one still sounds fresh today. Many elements were already presents 15 years earlier.
I suppose that Setzer saw a potential in "Cross Of Love" as he recorded it twice before this album on "Let's Go Faster" and also during his first solo stint between It's a splendid jazzy song with Are You Sure? - DJ Evil - Bad Behavior Mix gipsy chords, astounding solo and superb brushwork from Slim Jim.
Don't be fooled by the apparent simplicity of his drumkit this Elvis On Velvet - Stray Cats - Choo Choo Hot Fish can really play. This is a stunning atmospheric instrumental that would fit a James Bond movie to perfection. My definition for this kind of tune is "Music to drink Martini with The last two numbers are solid rockers. A new version of "Let's Go Faster" far better and richer than the one that appeared on the album of the same name courtesy of Dave Edmunds and his good sound and a "Hey we have 5 minutes left in the studio how about doing a Elvis song?

This album is the best CD I own and I own hundreds.
It is a great blend of their trademark rockabilly sound, some heavy duty blues rock, and Brain Setzer's more recent jazzier swing sound. On Choo Choo Hot Fish, there is no question that the boys are having fun, and there is no question that it shows in the quality of the music. His singing on "Beautiful Blues", for some reason, reminds me of Mel Torme, and believe me, that is not a slam, but rather, high praise. Buy this CD, you will be more than pleasantly surprised. I stumbled on this album soon after it was released with zero fan fare; I've never heard a track on the radio. What a missed opportunity for the record company and expanding radio programming.
This might be their best album - from "Elvis on Velvet" to an amazing version of "Mystery Train" that would have made the King proud. The instrumentals are dynamite. The sound is hard and true.

There is an element of "haunt" on the guitar work on many tracks, like "elvis on velvet" and the solo on "mystery train". Tremendously cool!! A lot of chops here on a diverse record. This seems to be a "lost" record. I was told the record company went bust, but it is a gem for Stray Cat fans. Pick it up if you can find it. You won't be dissapointed. The Stray Cats are hard edged on this one, yet they don't even come close to loosing that sound that made them the giants of rock-n-roll that they are. No rock-n-roll collection is complete without this record. Customers also viewed these items.
