Returning to England, the song was reworked into the final, acoustic-based version at Olympic Studios several months later, in May of It is also one of the few tracks that does not contain any synthesizers, striving for a more down-home, almost country approach.
Townshend adds note-bending acoustic runs to his own acoustic accompaniment, holding down a solid rhythm. Flamboyant drummer Keith Moon seems to use all his strength in an effort to contain himself to a simple, straightforward beat. The Who used "Love Ain't for Keeping" to open many of their live concerts during this period, but reverted back to the harder-edged style of the original demo recordings for the stage.
