Arrowhead Chorale is an auditioned Cradle Hymn - Millikin University Choir choir led by Director Matthew Faerber. It's our mission to bring fine performances of distinctive vocal ensemble literature to the Arrowhead region of Minnesota, Northern Wisconsin, and beyond. Our repertoire spans five centuries of western music traditions - sacred and secular, folksong and art song, opera chorus and vocal jazz, music with humorous texts and occasional full operetta performances.
Originally formed by Paul Fletcher in the mids, the vocal ensemble hired Dr. Stanley Wold as the first Artistic Director in the s, at the same time that Arrowhead Chorale was incorporated as a non-profit organization. Cradle Hymn - Millikin University Choir joined the Chorale as Artistic Director, beginning with the season.
Millikin University Collegiate Chorale the singers of the Chorale are representative of a wide variety of professions, many of them have musical degrees and collegiate level choral singing experience.
Singers are required to perform solo music, pass rhythm-reading and pitch-reading tests, and demonstrate the ability to vary vocal timbres and techniques as required by different choral music for that year. Matthew Faerber joined the Arrowhead Chorale as Artistic Director beginning with the season. As a conductor, Millikin University Collegiate Chorale. Faerber is currently active as a collaborative pianist and vocal.
Stanley R. Wold led the Chorale from the s through the season. Brad Anderson has a deep appreciation for small choirs, first developed while attending the University of Minnesota, as Anderson sang in the Chamber choir under the direction of Thomas Lancaster. His singing career followed him through grade school and into college where he sang in the Choir of Christ Chapel and the Gustavus Choir at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota.
During his time with the college choirs, he toured around the United States and parts of western Europe singing in historic sanctuaries including Notre Dame, St. Paul's Cathedral, and the Madeleine. After graduating from college, he joined Musicorum, a chamber choir based in Mankato, Minnesota, and sang for one year before moving out west to pursue his master's degree at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. Post graduation, he moved to Duluth in and began singing with the chorale in January of He loves living in Duluth and having the opportunity to share music with the larger community.
Dahlquist said each week Dr. Wold enriched her choir providing lessons in music history along with voice. A graduate of the University of Minnesota Duluth with a degree in family and consumer science and education, Dahlquist has been an Arrowhead Chorale fan for nearly 25 years and served on the Board in a number of capacities — finally joining our Chorale as a singer! Jeffrey Flory was heavily involved in music as a child, performing in choirs, orchestra, and musical theater. He sought to identify his passion in school, studying music education at Drake University in Des Moines, IA and environmental science. While pursuing a career in environmental science, his varied schedule kept him from joining choir and theater productions.

Kristin Freed is new to the Duluth Mil and absolutely delighted to join the Arrowhead Chorale. Her musical training began early in life, watching her mother sing solos and direct the church choir, listening to orchestral works with her father, and taking piano lessons. As a child, the most fun she remembers was singing in musicals, in school choruses and church choirs. Musical expression became intrinsic to being alive, each experience adding to a multifaceted celebration of doing art together with people.
At Luther College, Kristin was privileged to sing under Weston Noble, and later completed a Bachelor of Music degree in voice performance at the University of Iowa, singing in choral and chamber groups, solos and orchestral works. After college, her guitar went with her wherever she went, singing in church groups, youth groups, and then to Africa where she served to bring literacy to a poverty stricken people, who wonderfully expressed joy in their singing.

Jan Ihrke has been involved in music since grade school, playing piano and clarinet. Jan holds a degree in Music Education K from the University of Minnesota — Duluth, and taught in public and parochial schools, as well as private piano and instrumental lessons, for over 30 years, and recently retired from the USPS after 20 years.
She sang for four years with UMD University Singers under Vernon Opheim, played with Twin Ports Wind Ensemble for several years under Timothy Mahr, and has been involved in music at church, singing in choir and ensembles, playing piano, clarinet and handbells. A Two Harbors native, Jerry Kaldor had great experiences singing in school and church choirs when he was young.
